Chief Medical Content Offcer

Sunvalley Communication is seeking a Chief Medical Content Officer to lead the ongoing development and production of the company’s health and medicince focused radio broadcast and podcast programs, including The Onco’Zine Brief and Physician’s Weekly.

The right person for this position will have significant digital and broadcast experience, a strong journalism background (focusing on health and medicine), a proven ability to lead a high-profile, fast-moving enterprise and strong cultural fluency including a track record of achievement in diversity, equity and inclusion.

The Chief Medical Content Officer will, in addition to being a part of the management team, also help Sunvalley Communication in developing programming partnerships with national and global broadcasters, including BBC , NPR, UK Health Radio, CBC, Deutche Welle (DW) and others. The Chief Medical Content Officer will also be responsible for the expansion of Sunvalley Communication’s reach via podcast networks.

The Chief Medical Content Officer will further:

  • Take the lead in expanding Sunvalley Commuication’s partnerships with an eye toward expanding audience, reach and impact and In addition;
  • Work closely with the editorial teams of Sunvalley Communication’s online and print publications;
  • Work closely with the editorial adsvisory boards of Onco’Zine and ADC Review | Journal of Antibody-drug Conjugates;
  • Oversee a team of broadcast and digital journalists, editors and producers.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership 

  • Provide leadership that reflects and advances the mission, vision, values, strategies and goals of Sunvalley Communication;
  • Lead the development of annual plans for The Onco’Zine Brief and Physician’s Weekly that align with Sunvalley Communication’s strategic vision and growth plan;
  • Demonstrate the highest degree of confidentiality, discretion, integrity, ethical decision- making and sound business judgment to be an effective, trusted confidant to the leadership team of Sunvalley Communication and and organizational colleagues;
  • Manage financial performance and operational budget of The Onco’Zine Brief and Physician’s Weekly;
  • Conceive and implement strategic vision for growing and retaining audience and engagement with content.
  • Establish and articulate vision for the future of multi-platform content within the media landscape.

People Leadership 

  • Lead and develop an energized, motivated, collaborative and committed team;
  • Show personal commitment to equity, inclusion, diversity and access in their relationships, in the workplace and for the audiences of The Onco’Zine Brief and Physician’s Weekly;

Operational Leadership 

  • Set editorial vision across all content production, including broadcast and podcatst productions, streaming media, and anticipated future growth areas;
  • Continuously manifest this vision, through “signature” program content and by identifying sources of talent to implement the vision;
  • Translate both The Onco’Zine Brief and Physician’s Weekly brand personalities across multiple platforms and formats, expanding existing product lines by repurposing content and/or identifying new brand extensions;
  • Align content around The Onco’Zine Brief and Physician’s Weekly value proposition of raising the economic intelligence of the country through the unorthodox story, the casual conversation, and the unexpected angle on news;
  • Uphold a culture of innovation and instill in editorial leadership team the priorities of creativity, experimentation and out-of-the box thinking;
  • Build a strategic partnership with business team (revenue sales leaders) to identify key editorial areas around which to develop stand-out editorial moments for signature journalism for The Onco’Zine Brief and Physician’s Weekly with multi- platform strategies and diversified revenue streams.
  • Create proactive, ongoing discussions between editorial and revenue-generating (sales) teams;
  • Position The Onco’Zine Brief and Physician’s Weekly as the leaders in medical and health related broadcast and podcast conetnt designed to inform and educate on various platforms, development of audience centric services and increasing revenue potential as a result;
  • Regularly facilitate critical discussions about programs with editorial leadership teams to establish and develop broadcast and podcasts that serves existing audiences and attracts new audiences to The Onco’Zine Brief and Physician’s Weekly;
  • Together with the Sunvalley Communication’s editorial leadership team, identify potential partners for content projects;
  • Manage the budgets of The Onco’Zine Brief and Physician’s Weekly with full accountability for meeting revenue and expense goals;
  • Provide direction and oversight for the day-to-day operations of The Onco’Zine Brief and Physician’s Weekly, ensuring that resources are allocated in alignment with Sunvalley Communication’s strategic priorities;
  • Identify potential event opportunities to build communities around The Onco’Zine Brief and Physician’s Weekly brands.

Relationship Building/Advancement 

  • Represent Sunvalley Communication’s broadcast and podcast programs externally to its audiences, and to communities, partners, members, major donors, corporate underwriters, foundation funders and other constituents in a way that is persuasive, inspiring, credible and trusted;
  • Identify, cultivate and engage individual donors and institutional funders, connecting donor/funder interests with long- and short-term strategic goals of Sunvalley Communication, The Onco’Zine Brief and Physician’s Weekly.
  • Develop relationships and regularly engage with business and medical and healthcarte community leaders, Key Opinion Leaders and experts.

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Masters’ degree (Journalism, Business, History or English);
  • Demonstrated understanding of healthcare, medicine, (bio-) pharmaceutical industry and regulatory processes (FDA, EMA, etc);
  • Minimum of 7+ years of professional media leadership experience
  • Management experience in a similar organization at a national/international level;
  • Media industry (radio broadcast) experience strongly preferred.
  • Professional broadcast media leadership experience preferred.
